According to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department over 2900 foreign tourists visited Taj Mahal during the first week of Commonwealth Games which is double the number of tourists visited a week prior to games. Tourist Department is expecting over 1000 tourists per day during Commonwealth Games.

However Tourism Department believes that keeping up the tourist numbers after the games are closed will be difficult thing. Taj Mahal is already struggling to attract tourists for pass three years. Taj Mahal greets less tourists than any other wonder in the world.

The lack of Infrastructure is considered the main reason for drop in tourist arrivals for Taj Mahal. There have been incidents when only handful of people have visited Taj Mahal in a week. Expert blames Agra Tourism Board for the situation.
